A Lovely Italian Town

Caramanico is a small village located in the Pescara Region of Italy’s Abruzzo Region. It sits at an altitude of about 700 meters very near the Majella (the second highest mountain of the Apennines). Caramanico is about 40 mins from the Pescara airport. The weather is relatively cool and breezy in the summer and dry in the winter months. In the early 1700’s an earthquake nearby destroyed the town.

Sights include the Church of Santa Maria Maggiore; the Church of Saint Tommaso, founded in the 12th century in honor of Thomas of Canterbury; and the historic town center.

The town is most widely known for its sulphureous water spa. The springs remain at a constant temperature of 10 degrees centigrade and are used for hydroponic therapy and other treatments.

Visitors to the vacation home Casale, located a bit to the north in Valle San Giovanni (Teramo), have made the two hour voyage to Caramico for this exhilarating spa experience.
